Osage Orange - Maclura Tinctoria Argentine

Latin: Maclura Tinctoria

Origin: West Indies, Central and South America

Osage Orange (Argentine) is considerably dense. Like many woods with this characteristic, it is popular for items like handles, turning, musical instruments and custom bows. Heartwood is golden to a fairly bright yellow, which, when exposed to UV and sunlight, can be expected to a darken to a medium brown with time. As with other woods this dense, working with it can be difficult. It turns well, takes stains, glues and finishes well. Osage Orange is much larger and higher quality than American Osage Orange. Rich Yellow-orange in color, it is very stable, durable, and strong
