What is CrazyFiber™? The Complete Guide to Atlas Supplies' Signature Acrylic Material
If you've spent any time in the cue building or knife making world, you've probably come across the name CrazyFiber™. But what exactly is it, and why do craftspeople keep coming back to it? This guide covers everything you need to know.
What is CrazyFiber™?
CrazyFiber™ is a proprietary cast acrylic rod and scale material developed and sold exclusively by Atlas Supplies. Unlike standard acrylic, CrazyFiber™ is produced with swirling, layered patterns of color embedded throughout the material — which means the pattern runs all the way through, not just on the surface. Every piece you cut or turn reveals the same vibrant pattern inside.
It's available in two main forms: rods (for pool cue building, pen turning, and similar applications) and scales (flat handle-shaped pieces for knife making and other handle work).
What Makes It Different?
Most decorative acrylic materials on the market are either solid colors, simple two-tone swirls, or surface-printed patterns. CrazyFiber™ stands apart in a few key ways:
- Through-body pattern — the design goes all the way through, so it looks great no matter how much material you remove during shaping or turning.
- Huge pattern variety — with over 50 patterns available, from realistic wood grain (Burl, Woodchuck) to vibrant abstract designs (Infrared, Mardi Gras, Tidal Wave) to camo patterns (GI Joe, Recon, Desert Storm).
- Works beautifully on a lathe — CrazyFiber™ machines cleanly, holds detail well, and polishes to a high gloss finish.
- Exclusive to Atlas Supplies — you won't find CrazyFiber™ anywhere else.
What is CrazyFiber™ Used For?
The most common applications are:
- Pool cue building — CrazyFiber™ rods are a popular choice for forearm and handle wraps, decorative rings, and accent pieces on custom cues. The wide range of patterns means builders can match or contrast with any cue design.
- Knife handle scales — CrazyFiber™ scales are pre-cut to handle size and ready to shape, making them a fast and eye-catching choice for custom knife handles.
- Pen turning — the rods work well on a pen lathe and produce stunning results.
- Other craft and turning applications — anywhere you need a durable, machinable, visually striking acrylic material.
How to Work With CrazyFiber™
CrazyFiber™ machines similarly to other cast acrylics. A few tips:
- Use sharp tooling — dull tools can cause chipping or cracking at the edges.
- Keep speeds moderate and use light cuts when turning on a lathe.
- Sand progressively through grits (120 → 220 → 400 → 800 → 1500) before buffing to a high gloss.
- It bonds well with standard CA (cyanoacrylate) adhesive and most epoxies.
