Chakte Viga (Mexican Pernambuco) - Caesalpinia platyloba
Latin: Caesalpinia Platyloba:
Origin: Tropical Mexico and Central America
Chakte Viga is a very popular wood for turning as well as custom furniture or inlays. The beautiful orange-yellow color and iridescent quality make it a favorite. It is dense but workable and finishes well. It is extremely durable for exterior uses. Heartwood is bright orange to golden brown. Contrasting sapwood is pale white to yellow. Despite its high density, Chakte Viga generally machines, turns, and glues well. It's closest relative might be Brazilwood (which is often used for musical bows), Chakte Viga shares many of the same excellent acoustic properties. Chakte Viga has a great color, a smooth texture, and a unique iridescent quality that seems to shimmer under the proper wood finish. This wood is very easy to work, has a nice orange-red color that darkens with time and often is strongly iridescent. Reportedly has good tonal qualities. Moderately hard, easy to work and has a slight odor when working. Source Region: Central America
PLEASE NOTE: In addition to our standard return policy conditions, all costs incurred to ship wood back to Atlas will be at the buyer's expense. The wood cannot be machined in any way, and must have our stamp on it.
